After graduating from the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium in Regensburg , Oskar Peter Spandl studied educational science, psychology, human biology and journalism. He passed state examinations for teaching posts at elementary, secondary and vocational schools. In 1962 he received his doctorate with a statistical thesis on Dr. phil.

He gained educational and practical teaching experience as a teacher at Munich secondary schools and at the Munich vocational school for toolmakers and technical draftsmen. From 1963 to 1972 he held various teaching positions, including a. at the Goethe Institute, the Institute for Vocational Training, the Army Officer School and the Munich University of Education.

After a two-year scholarship from the German Research Foundation, he first worked as a research assistant at the Technical University of Munich and at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich , then from 1983 to 1998 as Academic Director in the Faculty of Psychology and Education.

On the instructions of the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art, he took exams in school pedagogy for teaching posts at elementary, secondary, secondary, special and vocational schools and for educational counseling. As a permanent member of the library and test library commission of his faculty, he was committed to building it up. Study trips to the USA and Canada excited him for “Comparative Education”.

His research focus is the application of the latest psychological knowledge in the teaching practice of general and vocational schools.

The focus in Spandl's lectures and seminars at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich was on the topics of “effective teacher behavior in disruptive and conflict situations”, “student-centered micro-planning of teaching” and “the organization of academic work”. For all beginning semesters he asked for a lecture on "Methodology and Practice of Intellectual Work".

Since his fourth semester of studies, Spandl has been writing articles for specialist journals and publishing “Study Aids for Universities and Colleges”.
