Oskar Poensgen
Carl Oskar Poensgen (born February 27, 1873 in Cologne , † November 20, 1918 in Berlin ) was a German administrative lawyer .
Live and act
Poensgen came from the Düsseldorf iron and steel industrial family Poensgen . His parents were Ernst August Poensgen (1844–1873), merchant and consul of the Republic of Peru in Cologne, and Emilie Caroline Roezel (1850–1899). After studying law at the Universities of Lausanne, Berlin, Münster and Bonn (1894-1895) as well as the promotion of Dr. jur. he worked as an administrative lawyer, most recently as a Privy Councilor in the Imperial Statistical Office in Berlin. In 1915 he was one of the founders of the United Associations Information Center in Berlin (AVV / = central body of all national associations for journalistic support of war policy). He also wrote a number of state and labor law papers. His publication on the right to vote from 1909 remains remarkable , in which he cites, among other things, the status of the discussion about women's suffrage , which was only introduced in Germany in 1918: “With the general principle that the innate disposition of women does not allow them to exercise empowering political rights, however, there is little to be done. The talents and abilities of women today are so dependent on upbringing and tradition that one could not justify a generally valid sentence from them. It is correct that in the larger cultural nations today women are on average probably not as capable of exercising political rights as men. "

Oskar Poensgen was married to Alma Grau (* March 16, 1888 - October 24, 1918), daughter of Bernhard Grau (1856-1924), General Director of Stolzenhagen-Kratzewieck near Stettin , since March 2, 1918 . The marriage remained childless. The family grave is located in the south-west cemetery Stahnsdorf .
