Osmylus elegantissimus is a species of the reticulated winged (Neuroptera) from the family of the brooklike (Osmylidae).

Imago

The head is light brown in color and has dark spots around the antenna bases, the ocelles as well as on the forehead and the clypeus . The thorax and abdomen are dark brown in color, but hairy lighter. The yellow-brown legs are hairy lighter. The coxes at the apex are light brown on all legs , otherwise they are dark. The wings are large and clearly narrower than those of Osmylus fulvicephalus . The forewings are 21 to 24 millimeters long. There are large, dark brown spots on the hyaline wing membrane . On the hind wings there is a stronger speckle only in the distal area of ​​the Kostal field. The wing longitudinal veins are light and have dark brown lines, the transverse veins, however, are dark brown.

larva

Larvae in the last larval stage are around 20 millimeters in size and brown in color. The head including the suction pliers and pronotum are significantly lighter than the rest of the body. The legs are yellow. There is no lightening of the abdomen.

Occurrence

The species occurs in southern Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan and northeast Anatolia.
