List of apple varieties |
The Osnabrücker Renette , also Graue Osnabrücker Renette , or Reinette d´Osnabrück , is an apple variety that has been known since the end of the 18th century, probably comes from the area around Osnabrück and is still widespread in Switzerland today. The variety belongs to the Renetten group and was first described by Johann Ludwig Christ in 1802 .
tree
The tree grows vigorously when young. It bears early and requires warm, well-drained soils and an open, sunny location. It is often attacked by fruit tree cancer and becomes extremely thin.
fruit
The fruit is medium-sized, tall, and stem-bellied. The calyx is green at the base, the shell is smooth and rough, dry. The basic color is greenish to yellow-green, often only visible in the calyx pit or on the ribs. The opaque color is marbled cloudy red and striped red (0% - 80%). This covering color is mostly covered by extensive russeting . The flesh is yellowish, coarse in structure, firm and juicy. This is strongly spiced, initially with a noticeably pointed acidity that is later pleasantly refreshing. Ripe for trees at the end of October, ready for consumption from December to March.
