OS-Radio 104.8 is a non-commercial citizen broadcaster in Osnabrück and has been on the air since April 1, 2002. It emerged from the Osnabrück Open Canal , which began operating on October 18, 1996 as one of 13 radio projects for community radios. The broadcast license was initially valid for seven years and was extended to March 31, 2014 in 2009. In spring 2013 the license was extended to March 31, 2021 and in spring 2020 to 2031.
According to the Lower Saxony State Media Act (NMedienG), the broadcaster has three main tasks: current local reporting, open broadcaster slots for everyone and imparting media skills through seminars and training.
reception
The transmission area includes the city of Osnabrück and the district of Osnabrück with a population of around 350,000. In this room the transmitter can be received via antenna on the frequency 104.8 MHz and via digital cable on 122 MHz. In addition, a live stream and podcasts are offered on the Internet . The stream can also be received via the OS radio app.
program
The program includes local news, reports, reports, interviews, tips and service offers with topics from politics, business, sport, culture, university and school. The focus is on the three magazines "Startklar" (6:00 am to 10:00 am), "OS Radio Through the Day" (10:00 am to 2:00 pm) and "OS Radio Am Afternoon" (2:00 pm to 6:00 pm).
Part of the program is produced by editorial groups on open broadcasting slots. Fixed topic and participant groups have been established within the framework of around 60 free slots.
Youth radio
For children and young people from the age of 12 there is an independent editorial group “New in - young radio from Osnabrück”, which broadcasts its program every Monday from 3:05 pm as part of media education. She is looked after by a person who completes a voluntary social year for culture at the broadcaster.
Student radio
Osradio has maintained a close partnership with Unifunk Osnabrück (UFO) since 1996. The Unifunk is a student initiative and registered association that is financially supported by the student parliament of the University of Osnabrück . He has had his own studio in the canteen at the Schlossgarten of the Osnabrück Student Union since 1998 , but continues to use the technical support of osradio. Since 2007, Unifunk has had four one-hour programs per week. This makes it the most active user group of osradio and the most active campus radio in Lower Saxony. From November 2009 on, “Radio Out-Sight” was broadcast once a week by students from the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences . As part of the social work course, the project ran for one year and dealt with the issue of helping the homeless in Osnabrück.
Active generation radio
“Timeless” is what the over 50-year-old editorial group calls itself. With the support and supervision of an employee of the station, the members of this team produce a weekly program that is tailored to the wishes and preferences of their generation.

The "Funkflöhe" project started in February 2009 as an environmental media product for primary school children. The aim of this project, which was limited to two years, was to give the children an age-appropriate understanding of the environment and environmental problems in the form of a “slightly different” specialist lesson. The medium of radio is used as a communication tool. 13 primary schools have now registered for the cooperative project funded by several institutions. In December 2009 it was recognized by UNESCO as one of the official projects of the World Decade of Education for Sustainable Development . The "Funkflöhe" project came to an end at the beginning of 2011.
RAUM OS - environmental media project
"RAUM OS" radio environmental reporter Osnabrück is a pilot project by osradio 104.8. The project aims to break new ground in environmental education and to anchor education for sustainable development (ESD) in the secondary school education system. For this purpose, secondary school students research topics such as energy, transport and disposal and implement these within a "RAUM OS-AG" at their school for the radio. The two-year media project (February 2011 - January 2013) is financially supported by the German Federal Environment Foundation (DBU) and the Lower Saxony Bingo Environment Foundation.
