Northumbria at the time of Osric

Osric (also Osricus ; * around 700; † May 9, 729 ) was king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria from 718 to 729 .

Osric was probably a son of Aldfrith (686-705) and his wife Cuthburga and a younger brother of Osred I (718-729). He came from the house of Æthelfrith (592–616).

When King Cenred of the House of Occa (Ocga) died in 718, Osric succeeded him to the throne. Details of Osric's reign are not known. Shortly before his death in 729, he named Ceolwulf , the brother of his predecessor Cenred from the House of Occa (Ocga), as his successor , which finally inherited the previous dynasty. Osric died a violent death on May 9, 729.
