Ost Side Story - The musical by Dominik Flaschka (idea, book, dialogues) and Roman Riklin (book, music, lyrics) is a Swiss comedy musical that depicts the tragic love story of Bernstein's West Side Story , resp. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, adapted to Zurich conditions. Instead of the two warring families, the fan groups of two rival football clubs fight each other in the "East Side Story". FC St. Gallen fan Tomy falls in love with Märy, a supporter of FC Zurich .
The musical premiered on April 30, 2015 in the Theater am Hechtplatz . Due to its great success, the piece was extended in autumn 2015 and was revived in autumn 2016.
The production was nominated a total of nine times for the German Musical Theater Prize 2015 (including for “Best Musical”, “Best Book”, “Best Song Texts”) and was awarded in the “Best Director” category (Dominik Flaschka).
action
Ost Side Story tells the dramatic love story of Märy from Zurich, who falls madly in love with the exiled St.Gallen Tomy at a turbulent football match in Letzigrund. Much to the displeasure of her brother Ritschi, a windy bouncer and petty criminal, and his best friend Noldi, the greasy sausage roaster from Langstrasse, who has been raving about Märy for years. The two men try by all means to prevent a relationship between Märy and the unworthy St. Gallen. Ritschi's friend Rosi recently started working for the police. When an important drug deal threatens to be discovered by the two scene crooks on their initiative, the duo forged a dirty plan with which the unloved St.Gallen brood should also be disposed of. Because Tomy and his loyal friends Sändy and Willy, who would like to bring him back to home, do not fit into the concept of the Zurich scene. A tangible dispute arises from rivalry. The attempt at tolerance and integration fails even before the canton border on mustard on the bratwurst.
