East Alpine-Dinaric Society for Vegetation Science
The East Alpine-Dinaric Society for Vegetation Science is a scientific society of vegetation experts who work primarily with the methods of plant sociology.
The origins of the company lie in the years around 1960, when the plant sociologist Erwin Aichinger from Austria, Sandro Pignatti from Italy and Maks Wraber from Slovenia a working group set up of with the aim of cross-border cooperation in the vegetation study exploring Eastern Alps - Dinara promote space.
At the first meetings, the association was still a section of the International Association for Vegetation Science, but then formed as an independent scientific society.
One focus of the work are conferences that are initially organized annually, later every two years, in a different country. The first conference took place in Klagenfurt in 1960 . At the conferences, the young generation of plant sociologists from the Central European School of Vegetation Science, founded by Braun-Blanquet, from the countries of the Eastern Alpine-Dinaric region should be given the opportunity to present and discuss their work in lectures or posters. Excursions are also organized.
In addition to work on plant sociology, the conferences also address new developments such as genetics, multivariate methods or the use of remote sensing and GIS in solving vegetation-related questions.
Right from the start, the conference languages were German, Italian, Serbo-Croatian and Slovenian. Since older vegetation experts in particular understood German as a language, it developed into the preferred language for negotiation. In 1994 it was decided to allow English as a language at the conferences.
The society is based at the Botanical Institute of the University of Trieste .
