Osterøy is an island in the Norwegian Fylke Vestland .

The island lies northeast of Bergen and is surrounded by a ring of three fjords:

  • Osterfjord in the northwest,
  • Sørfjord in the south (hence its name),
  • Veafjord in the east (broadly merging into the Sørfjord to the south, connected to the arms of the Osterfjord to the north by the Kallestadsund ).

The union of Osterfjord and Sørfjord is connected to the open sea by various inlets. The south bank of the Sørfjord belongs to the municipality of the city of Bergen.

With an area of ​​330 km², the island of Osterøy is the fourteenth largest and the largest not directly in the open sea in Norway. A good fifth of it in the east belongs to the municipality of Vaksdal , which is mainly located on the mainland , the rest to the municipality of Osterøy .

The highest point on the island is Høgafjellet, 868.2 meters above sea level.
