Otmar Bucher

Otmar Bucher (born June 27, 1935 in Buchs SG ) is a Swiss graphic artist , designer and author.

Life

Growing up in Lucerne , he completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter and then trained as a graphic designer at the University of Design . In 1959 he moved to Zurich and worked in an advertising agency. Stays in New York, California, Mexico and Japan followed.

Between 1969 and 1970, Bucher was responsible for the layout concept of the newly introduced weekend magazine of the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper, was also responsible for the design of the first 28 issues and received the Gold Award from the Art Directors Club Switzerland.

Between 1976 and 1979 Otmar Bucher was responsible for the concept, the text, the layout and the illustrations for the Panda magazine of WWF Switzerland and was awarded the Silver Award of the Art Directors Club Switzerland.

With his wife, the author Angelika Waldis , he planned the youth magazine Spick in 1981 , which appeared for the first time in January 1982 and which they jointly managed until 1999. Initially, Otmar Bucher was jointly responsible for the graphic design in addition to his role as general manager; later he was assisted by two other graphic designers. He wrote numerous articles for the youth magazine, mainly in the areas of nature, animals and the environment.

In 2000 Angelika and Otmar Bucher retired. Since then they have been living as freelance writers in Gockhausen near Zurich.
