Otto Wallach badge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Otto Wallach badge was awarded at irregular intervals to researchers from European countries for their special achievements in the field of essential oils , terpenes and polyterpenes or biochemical attractants and deterrents (so-called pheromones ). The front of the gold plaque shows the structural formulas of compounds Wallach dealt with: isoprene , β- pinene, and α- terpinene .

The plaque was awarded from the Otto Wallach Fund . This was built by Dragoco Gerberding & Co. AG (Holzminden) in 1964 at the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh) in memory of the founder of modern terpene chemistry, Otto Wallach (1847–1931).

Due to the name change of the company Dragoco in 2003 with a changed range of tasks, this price no longer fit into the company profile and the awarding of the Otto Wallach plaque was suspended.
