Wolfgang Oppolzer

Wolfgang Oppolzer (born August 4, 1937 in Vienna , † March 15, 1996 in Geneva ) was an Austro-Swiss chemist who worked in the field of natural product synthesis .

After studying at the University of Vienna , Oppolzer did his doctorate on rifamycin from 1960 under Vladimir Prelog (ETH Zurich) . He then went to Harvard as a postdoc in 1964 with Elias J. Corey and stayed at the Woodward Research Institute in Basel for two years . From 1967 he worked at Sandoz . In 1974 he was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Geneva .
