Otto Bernhard of Verdion

Otto Bernhard Verdion , after the nobility of Verdion , (* 1719 ; † August 5, 1800 in Zeitz ) was a German court official, writer and manor owner . He was the Electoral Saxon Privy Councilor and was one of the most productive Saxon writers from the Enlightenment. Today it is almost completely forgotten.

Life

He entered the service of the Saxon elector and rose in the administration to the electoral secret chamber council. As such, he had the finances necessary to acquire a complex of two manors in Löbitz. The seller was the decrepit Gotthelf Adolph Graf von Hoym .

family

Out of wedlock he and Johanna Eleonora Richter had fathered their son Carl August Verdion, who was born in Friedrichstadt in 1771, and for whose maintenance he was responsible. He later married Eleonora. He had two more daughters with her. His family was raised to the nobility with him. The exact year of the award is not known.

  1. The statement that can be found several times in the literature that he died on his manor Löbitz is incorrect. He was buried in the Löbitz cemetery on August 5, 1800, but died in Zeitz.
