Otto Briesemeister ( May 18, 1866 in Arnswalde - June 16, 1910 in Berlin ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ) and doctor.

Life

Briesemeister, son of a teacher, initially studied medicine in Berlin, Würzburg and Leipzig. He received his doctorate and then also worked as a general practitioner. During this time he devoted his free time to singing.

After he had done his service as a military doctor, he went to Leipzig to be trained as a singer with Carl Theodor Widemann .

At first he worked as a concert singer. In 1893 he made his debut at the court theater in Dessau as “Manrico” in the troubadour . In 1894 he went to Aachen, in 1895 to Breslau to the opera house there. He stayed there until 1900.

From 1899 to 1909 he sang the “Loge” in the Ring cycle at the Bayreuth Festival , but could also be heard as Lohengrin or Siegfried at other theaters.

He lived in Berlin, where he also worked as a specialist in neck problems. His wife was the actress Sidonie Hönig . After his daughter contracted diphtheria in 1910 and infected him with it, he died of it.
