Otto Butz

Otto Butz (born October 5, 1876 , † October 8, 1958 in Potsdam ) was a German animal breeding scientist.

Life

Otto Butz studied agriculture at the Agricultural University Poppelsdorf and the universities of Jena and Halle . In 1899 he became a member of the Corps Agraria Bonn. In the same year he joined the Corps Agronomia Jena. After graduating as Dr. phil. in Halle he became breeding director for Saxony-Anhalt in the animal breeding office in Dessau . In this function he had a major influence on the breeding and feeding of cattle and pigs in the period before the First World War . As a result, he became a consultant for animal breeding and government councilor in the Prussian Ministry of Agriculture . In 1918 he also became a member of the administrative board of the research institute for pig farming in Ruhlsdorf. He also received a lectureship in animal breeding at the agricultural school in Potsdam, and later in Oranienburg-Luisenhof. After the Second World War he became head of the cattle breeding department in the state government of Brandenburg. He taught at the agricultural college in Oranienburg, which was reopened on his initiative, until he was 75.

Together with Wilhelm Gatermann, Otto Butz was editor of the four-volume work Die Deutschen Herdbuchzuchten in 1922 . Together with Gustav Frölich and the animal breeding scientist Karl Müller , he was the editor of the pig breeding magazine .
