Otto Clant of Scharmer (* 1532 in Groningen , † 1586 in Boxum ) was a Dutch Jonkheer and knights .

Otto was married to Anna Rengers, daughter of Melchior Rengers and Griete van Beste. Otto himself was the son of Egbert Clant and Teetke van Nittersum. Otto and Anna had six sons.

Life

Otto Clant is 1543 mentioned by name as the owner of Castle Het Huis te Scharmer . When the Spanish army wanted to attack Friesland during the Eighty Years War in 1586 , Otto refused to surrender and finally holed up in the church in the village of Boxum. The Spanish army wanted to offer him mercy. But Otto kept fighting until he saw no way out, wrapped himself in a flag and was pierced by a lance.
