Otto Dittrich

Otto Dittrich (born February 13, 1884 in Nagykikinda , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary ; † May 2, 1927 in Timișoara , Kingdom of Romania ) was a Romanian-German clergyman and co-founder of the Banat German Choir Association .

Life

Dittrich was the son of a businessman. He attended grammar schools in Nagykikinda ( German  Groß-Kikinda ) and Temesvár from 1895 to 1903 . From 1903 to 1908 he studied theology at the Theological Faculty in Temesvár and was ordained a priest on June 28, 1908 . Between 1908 and 1911 he worked as a chaplain in Billéd (German: Biled ), between 1911 and 1919 as a coadjutor in Bogáros (German: Bogarosch ), and from 1919 until his death in 1927 as a pastor in Cărpiniș (German: Gertianosch ).

Dittrich was one of the founders of the "Banater German Singer Association" (also "Association of Banater German Singers"). Together with the pedagogue Johann Ruß and the farmer Josef Dittrich, he promoted the merger of the local German-speaking choral societies in the Banat . On August 22, 1922, 31 German-speaking choral societies met in Perjamosch to found the Singers' Association . Otto Dittrich was unanimously elected secretary. In 1930 the institution comprised 92 associations from the Banat and the " Arader Gau ". In 1927 the federal government set up the “Dittrich Foundation”. The choral society in Cărpiniș donated the "Dittridi Cup" named after Dittrich.

Dittrich died of sepsis in Timișoara in 1927 .
