Otto Eidenschink

Otto Eidenschink (born November 1, 1911 in Munich ; † November 6, 2004 ) was a German mountaineer .

Life

Eidenschink was a representative of the worker mountaineering movement in the 1920s and 1930s. 1936 first winter solo ascent of the Jubilee ridge . In 1937 he and Ernst Möller managed to climb the Eiger south-east face for the first time. 1939 first winter ascent of the Wetterkante ( Mittlere Wetterspitze ) with H. Lanig. After 1945 he founded and directed the Munich Mountaineering School and trained mountain guides for the German Alpine Association . He wrote a standard mountaineering textbook and autobiography, which is an interesting testimony to the history of mountaineering and the labor movement in the first half of the 20th century.
