Otto Gennes (born August 23, 1874 in Baumholder ; † August 8, 1943 in Berlin ) was a German cooperative functionary .

Life

Gennes studied after graduating from high school in Giessen in Giessen (member of the Corps Teutonia ) and Berlin Law and passed the state examination in 1896. He became a trainee lawyer in Gießen, Darmstadt and Mainz and in 1899 became a Hessian government assessor . In January 1900, on a leave of absence from civil service, he joined the Reich Association of German Agricultural Cooperatives , which at that time was still under the direction of its founder Wilhelm Haas . In 1904 Gennes resigned from civil service and was appointed General Secretary of the Reich Association. After Haas' death (1913) he succeeded him as advocate general and board member of the association. In 1917 he was given the character of a councilor by the Grand Duke of Hesse.

Under Gennes leadership, the Reichsverband was joined by the Association of Agricultural Credit Cooperatives in Baden, the Association of Agricultural Credit Cooperatives in Württemberg, the Trier Auditing Association, the Cooperative Association of the Baden Farmers' Association and the Bavarian Cooperative Association in Ansbach. By 1929 it had a total of 27 state and provincial associations with 26,170 individual cooperatives.

In addition, Gennes was a member of the Provisional Reich Economic Council from 1920 to 1933 , a member of the board of directors of Deutsche Rentenbank, Deutsche Rentenbank-Kreditanstalt (Berlin) and the Girozentrale der Austrian cooperatives (Vienna) as well as the supervisory board of numerous agricultural procurement and financing companies.

In 1933 he retired.
