Otto Gleiß
Otto Ludwig Friedrich August Gleiß (born December 19, 1841 in Glückstadt , † September 15, 1906 in Jevenstedt ) was a German pastor and translator .
Life
Gleiß studied theology and was ordained in 1869. He initially worked as a predicant in Dänischenhagen and adjunct in Oldenburg in Holstein . As pastor of the Schleswig-Holstein regional church he worked from 1872 in Westerland on Sylt, from 1879 in Hamberge , from 1888 in Jevenstedt .
Otto Gleiß translated works from Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and French, a. a. by Zacharias Topelius , Meïr Aron Goldschmidt and Sophus Heegaard . His translation of Søren Kierkegaard's " Either - Or " (1885, with Alexander Michelsen ) made Danish philosophers more widely available after interest in Germany had only been aroused in 1879 by Georg Brandes ' book "Sören Kierkegaard - a literary character picture".
