Otto I von Anhalt († June 25, 1304 ) from the house of the Askanians was the ruling prince of Anhalt-Aschersleben .

Life

Otto I was the eldest son of Prince Heinrich II of Anhalt and his wife Mechtild , a daughter of Duke Otto I of Braunschweig and Lüneburg , after whom he was named.

Together with his brother Heinrich III. he was co-regent of Anhalt-Aschersleben since his father's death in 1266. However, since both were not of legal age, her mother Mathilde ran the country's business until 1270.

Otto and Heinrich ruled Anhalt-Aschersleben together until 1283. In that year, the younger brother Heinrich embarked on a career in the church and became canon in Magdeburg and provost of the Blasiusstift in Braunschweig . Otto ruled the principality alone from then until his death in 1304.

Marriage and offspring

Otto had been married to Hedwig von Schlesien (* 1252/56; † before December 14, 1300), daughter of Duke Heinrich III , since 1283 . von Schlesien-Breslau and widow Heinrichs, the eldest son of Albrecht II. von Meissen .
