Otto Jaap
Otto Jaap (born June 4, 1864 in Triglitz ; † March 14, 1922 there ) was a German teacher, botanist and entomologist .
Life
Jaap was born as the son of a farmer and community leader in Triglitz, Brandenburg. After attending the village school, at the age of 12 he went to the municipal secondary school in Pritzwalk . The rector there, with whom he was retired, introduced him to botany. He then attended the teachers 'college in Kyritz , where he passed the teachers' examination in 1884. First he worked as a teacher in Jacobsdorf , and from 1887 at the girls' school in Rosenallee in Hamburg.
In 1912, Jaap was given early retirement due to a heart condition. Then he devoted himself entirely to botany, especially mushrooms , mosses and lichens . In 1903 he published the Fungi selecti exsiccati , in 1907 the Myxomycetes ecsiccati were added, both so-called Exsiccatenwerke. In 1914 he traveled to Dalmatia and Istria .
Most recently he also worked on the plant galls , for which the zoologist Ewald Heinrich Rübsaamen inspired him. Jaap described several new plant galls; and after him were gall midges genera Jaapiella and Jaapiola named.
With the publication of a uniform- winged collection, primarily from the province of Brandenburg , he significantly stimulated insect research there. The mushroom genus Jaapia and a similar- winged genus of the same wing are named after Jaap .
