Life

Lacmann studied civil engineering at the technical universities in Munich and Berlin with a final diploma. As a research assistant he carried out photogrammetric measurements at the Prussian Research Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Shipbuilding in Berlin from 1913 to 1919 .

On the subject of “The production of drawn calculation tables. A textbook of nomography ”he received his doctorate in 1921 at the Technical University of Stuttgart . With Haaken Christensen, he had founded a surveying company in Oslo, which, however, did not exist due to the decline in construction activity. That is why he went to Moscow in 1924 to work as an instructor for photogrammetry in the Red Army.

The boom in photogrammetry in Germany prompted him to come back to Berlin in 1927 and to do his habilitation in 1929 on image measurement in the photogrammetry department. From 1930 he held the newly founded chair for photogrammetry and map studies at the Technical University of Berlin. This professorship was donated by the German Aviation Research Institute . Until 1935 he was head of the department for aerial photo measurement and navigation at the German Research Institute for Aviation, where he built the prototype of an orthoprojector. In 1936 he had to give up his dual role as an endowed professor and from then until 1945 he was a university lecturer with his own institute for photogrammetry. When the Technical University of Berlin was founded, he was appointed to the chair for photogrammetry and map science. In 1954 he retired.
