Otto Lukat

Otto Lukat (born August 12, 1947 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2001 to 2014 he was mayor of the city of Uelzen .

Career

Lukat grew up in Hamburg-Langenbek . After graduating from the Alexander von Humboldt High School in 1967 , he studied law at the University of Hamburg . There he was involved in the AStA and in 1970 took over the chairmanship of the student parliament and council of elders. Shortly after graduating in 1975, Lukat became a department head at the Lüneburg district government , where he takes on legal activities. From 1977 he worked in Stade , where, in addition to drafting the hospital reform, he also oversees the dyke associations. In 1978, through a special order from the Ministry of Agriculture, Lukat worked out a cabinet proposal for a new state nature conservation law . He later became head of the economics department of the government branch in Stade. In 1980 Lukat moved to Uelzen and became a city ​​councilor there . He later worked as deputy city director and first city councilor before he was elected mayor of the city of Uelzen in 2001. In 2006 he was re-elected with 69.9 percent of the vote. On May 25, 2014 Jürgen Markwardt was elected Lukat's successor with 64.4 percent of the vote and took over the office from him on November 1, 2014.

Lukat is married and has a daughter and two sons.
