His main works in the early 20th century were eclectic villas, apartment buildings and hotels. In Lugano-Castagnola, for example, he built the “Villa Helios” on a terrace over the lake. After winning a competition together with Augusto Guidini , he planned the high school in Lugano (1903/1904). From 1904 to 1905 he built a villa on the Colle Pincio in Rome for his brother Emilio, who had become wealthy , which today houses the Istituto Svizzero . In 1905 he took over the restoration of San Lorenzo in Lugano , also with Guidini, during which the church was radically redesigned and which was completed by 1910.

As a politician, Maraini was a municipal and city councilor in Lugano, from 1897 to 1901 he was Ticino's Grand Councilor, and in 1922 he was a liberal-radical National Councilor for a few months, and from 1923 to 1927 he was again on the Grand Council (for the Rinnovamento economico ). From 1928 to 1934 he was a member of the federal and also the cantonal commission for the preservation of monuments, he was also president of the Ticino section of the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects and of the board of directors of the Banca della Svizzera italiana .
