Architecture and equipment
The originally Romanesque building was easted . Remains of the apse were found during excavations under the church square. In the 15th century the church was extended in Gothic style and provided with groin vaults. The orientation was rotated; the new choir was built into the rock slope in the west. In 1517 the Renaissance facade was built with rich figural decorations. The tower on the north side, Romanesque in the substructure, was given two Baroque upper floors and an octagonal lantern in the 17th century .
The interior is characterized by different stylistic epochs. The columns and arches of the central nave are still Romanesque, the choir, the side aisles and vaults are Gothic. The main altar and other furnishings are baroque . The dome-crowned Cappella della Madonna delle Grazie was added in the 18th century and contains rich late baroque paintings and figurines. A profound redesign took place between 1905 and 1910. The neo-Romanesque wall and vault paintings date from this period .
organ
The organ was built in 1910 by the organ builder Mascioni . The instrument has 27 registers (approx. 2,300 pipes ) on two manuals and a pedal . The actions are pneumatic.
