Otto Neumann (singer)

Otto Neumann (born April 21, 1891 in Vienna ; † December 28, 1956 there ) was an Austrian entertainment singer.

Life

After attending the military academy , he began a career as a professional soldier in 1911 as a lieutenant in a dragoon regiment. He served in the Austrian army until 1918, most recently in the rank of Rittmeister . After his discharge from the army, Neumann began a new career: He got engagements as a "mood singer " in cabarets and bars.

After a few years of engagement, he took over the management of the “Kaiser-Bar” in Vienna. As a singing manager, he entertained his guests every evening with the latest hits and Viennese songs . Due to its success, Neumann soon received offers from the record industry; from the mid-1920s he made recordings at the Austrian Columbia, mainly in Vienna, but also in Berlin. Neumann sang for orchestras such as Otto Dobrindt ("Dobbri" / Columbia Tanzorchester), the Charleston Serenaders, Frank Fox (d. I. Frantisek Fuchs), Isy Geiger, Adolf Pauscher, Harry Sandauer and others. a. between 1924 and 1936.

His artistic activity ended in 1940 with the beginning of the Second World War . After 1945 he ran the “Sanssoucis” bar in Vienna, where he appeared as a singer, but only occasionally.
