Otto Schade

Otto Schade (born August 30, 1910 in Magdeburg , † November 22, 1973 in Celle ) was a German educator, sports leader and politician (CDU).

Schade attended the Realgymnasium in Magdeburg and began studying at the Pedagogical Academy in Erfurt after graduating from high school. After the first teacher examination, he worked in the school service in the administrative district of Magdeburg from 1932. He fought in World War II and was most recently an officer in the Greater Germany Division . After the war he was captured and interned. After his release, he worked in another profession for two years before returning to school in 1949.

Otto Schade earned services for the development and expansion of sport in Celle and in the administrative district of Lüneburg. From 1956 to 1973 he was chairman of the Lüneburg district sports federation and 1961–1973 chairman of the district gymnastics and sports federation in Celle, and from 1965 deputy chairman of the Lower Saxony state sports federation. He excelled in particular as the initiator of numerous campaigns: “Healthy through exercise”, “Golden shoe”, “Golden fish”, “Sports culture days” in Celle.

In 1964 he was appointed rector.

Otto Schade was also politically active, among other things he was deputy mayor of the city of Celle. For the CDU, he moved into the sixth electoral term of the Lower Saxony state parliament on June 6, 1967, to which he was a member until the end of June 20, 1970. He was chairman of the Committee on Youth and Sport.

The Otto Schade Stadium (Saarfeld) on the Herzog-Ernst-Ring in Celle is named after Otto Schade. District athletics championships are held there every year. The main users are track and field athletes, footballers, but also all groups of recreational and popular sports, from children's gymnastics to senior citizens, who play sports there. National athletics events also take place regularly in Celle, as well as regional, northern and German championships after district and district championships. The stadium underwent extensive renovations in 2009 in order to continue to meet the requirements of these competitions.

Another sports facility in Celle, the Walter Bismark Stadium, which is also used for music festivals, is named after the foreman Walter Bismark. On March 25, 1946, Bismark was elected chairman of the "Gymnastics and Sports Association of Celle".
