Otto doubt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto Emil Zweifel (born September 5, 1910 in Zurich ; † January 2, 1977 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss artist .

Doubt made a significant contribution to developing the cult devices in the Catholic Church in Switzerland in accordance with the new forms of liturgy and to designing them in accordance with a contemporary understanding of art. As a trained goldsmith and silversmith, he had a decisive influence on the development of modern cult devices, such as those made possible by the decisions of the Second Vatican Council. As a graduate of the Zurich School of Applied Arts , Otto Zweifel had a solid education in figurative design. This found expression not only in concrete works, but was also the starting point for the necessary simplifications in the early enamel works and the successful abstraction of the artistic language. In the later phase of his work, the boundaries between abstract art (mainly pictures in enamel and acrylic) and the design of contemporary goblets blur.

The works - mainly goblets and pictures in acrylic , tempera or enamel , which Otto Zweifel created in his independent studio over the years, are mainly in private hands. In public space, for example, the Way of the Cross on the Rigi can be seen, which was recently professionally restored. The 14 stations made of stamped copper sheet show the story of Jesus' passion in impressive pictures using expressive faces. Another example is the tabernacle of the Church of St. Urs and Viktor in Subingen . The doors of the tabernacle, which is set into the wall to the left of the main altar, are also made of embossed and gilded silver sheet. What development the artist went through over the years can be seen when looking at the tabernacle in the Roman Catholic. Church of Killwangen can be guessed.
