The oval water treaders ( Peltodytes caesus ) is a beetle from the family of water treaders (Haliplidae).
features
The beetles reach a body length of 3.5 to 4 millimeters. Their body is short oval and arched. It is colored dirty red-yellow, the dots and several spots on the wing covers and a central flaw in the middle of the wing cover seam are colored black. The head is small, the forehead is narrower than the width of a compound eye . The pronotum is strongly conical and straight tapered towards the front and is provided with a curved transverse row of larger points in front of the base. The wings are one and a half times as long as they are wide. Their coarse rows of dots, which become finer towards the rear, lie close together. Basally, the wings have a transverse row of dimple-like points.
Occurrence and way of life
The species is common in Europe, North Africa and Syria. It is widespread in Central Europe and is not uncommon or even frequent. The animals live between aquatic plants in stagnant water.
