description

Over Rankeilour House was built between 1796 and 1800. The Edinburgh architect James MacLeran carried out the planning, but died before construction began. For this reason, the work was directed by the architect Alexander Laing .

The mansion is isolated around 800 m northeast of Bow of Fife. The two-story building is designed in a classical style. Its south-facing main facade is nine axes wide. The entrance portal was originally located there, but has since been moved to the east side. There is now a window at the position of the former portal. The windows are crowned . Colossal Ionic pilasters stretch along the central risalit to below the triangular gable . The slate-covered platform roof runs behind a stone balustrade . Today's main portal on the four axes wide east side closes with a segmental arched window . Twelve-part lattice windows are primarily installed along the facade . A staff wing adjoins it on the north side.
