Overknees or knee socks or knee socks is a term for stockings or boots that reach above the knee .
Socks
Overknees are equally popular with skirts, but also over pants. In the past, they were only worn in winter to keep themselves warm, but now they are worn all year round due to fashion.
Boots
The British series With Umbrella, Charm and Melon from the 1960s with agent Emma Peel can be seen as the official founder . With her business suit, she wore overknees with a revolver in the shaft. In the 1980s they became a fashion trend, but primarily in the fetish shoe . The image of Julia Roberts in the film Pretty Woman , in which she depicts a prostitute with vinyl overknees, had a decisive influence here . Overknees have been experiencing a revival since 2009 and are finding their way onto the international catwalks. Icons such as Madonna and fashion designer Victoria Beckham show their own collection in overknees boots. The boots are worn with skinny jeans, leggings, shorts and mini dresses. The materials are mostly smooth, synthetic or suede.
