Owando is a city in the center of the Republic of the Congo . The capital of the Cuvette department lies on the banks of the Kouyou River . At the 2012 census , Owando had a population of around 27,000. The city has Owando International Airport , which is about six kilometers to the southeast.
The city was founded in 1903 as Fort Rousset and only got an African name with Owando in 1977 .
