Owner of a Lonely Heart is a 1983 rock song by Yes , written by Trevor Rabin , Jon Anderson , Chris Squire and Trevor Horn . The latter produced the song.

history

Owner of a Lonely Heart was released in October 1983. It was a number one hit in the United States and a top 20 hit in many countries such as Germany . The song is 3:50 minutes long, and on the B-side of the single is the track Our Song . The version on album 90125 is 4:27 minutes. Gary Langan made a remix ( Red & Blue Remix Dance Version ) with a running time of 7:44 minutes, which was released as a maxi single. Owner of a Lonely Heart has appeared on TV shows like Everyone Hates Chris and Knight Rider . In 1991 the band said in an interview that a ballad was originally planned, but because of the very fast guitar riffs, the decision was made to create a "rock number" from it. The piece was the theme song for the rock show Zündfunk in the 1980s .

Music video

The music video was shot by Storm Thorgerson . The clip was broadcast many times on MTV .

At the beginning of the video a bird flies over a park, in the next shot people are walking down a street in a city, one of whom is arrested by two plainclothes officers. They take him to a courthouse. You go up a flight of stairs, through a corridor, and come to a waiting room. From there we continue through an office room, where secretaries sit and work on their typewriters. While the government officials lead him through the building, he constantly experiences brief hallucinations in which various animals threaten him. Eventually they come to the courtroom. At the direction of the chairman, however, he is thrown out of the courtroom and takes an elevator to the basement by himself. After a fight with a muscular hard worker, he escapes and climbs a ladder, clearly marked, onto the roof of the skyscraper. There he is surrounded by some men - the musicians of Yes - who appear out of nowhere and have changed from their animal form back to human beings. Thereupon he jumps from the roof and again the bird flies over the city. In the end, the man experiences the opening sequence of the video as déjà-vu and returns in the direction from which he came.
