The Oxa was one of the best known and most established techno / trance clubs in Switzerland .

Early years

On May 2, 1985, one of the largest private clubs in Switzerland was opened in Siewerdtstrasse in Zurich under the name The Club . It was open until 5 a.m. from Wednesday to Sunday. Because the entrance was in the middle of a residential area, problems quickly arose due to noise pollution. The authorities decided that The Club could only be opened on Friday and Saturday until midnight and on Sunday afternoons. Sunday afternoon was one of the most successful party occasions ever. The Club welcomed 1,000 party enthusiasts every Sunday afternoon. Marco Cirillo directed and organized the Sunday afternoons from 1985 to 1999. During this time, numerous artists could be hired. Among others: Digital Boy, La Bouche, Giorgio Prezioso, Mollela & Fargetta. Butterfly and Whiteside as well as Frankie Frank put on the records during this time.

In 1990, following the recommendation of lawyers, architects designed a relocation of the entrance from Siewerdtstrasse to Andreasstrasse, which runs in the adjacent industrial area. From then on, the club was accessed through a tunnel located under the railway embankment, which dates back to the time of the Second World War . Before the reopening, The Club was renamed Oxa . The resident DJ at the time was DJ Bobo .

In 1991 sales leveled off. While looking for new concepts, the organizers came across the young party organization Tarot . On October 4th 1991 the first tarot techno party took place at the Oxa. While Tarot held their events in various clubs across Zurich, the Oxa developed as a club for after hours . From then on, the parties at the Oxa began at 5 a.m. on Sunday morning. While its initial success was modest, the club made a name for itself and was frequented by party-goers from across the country. Resident DJ was Mas Ricardo . From 1993 the after-hours parties also took place on Saturday mornings. The Oxa became an integral part of the Swiss techno scene and the starting point for many DJ careers.

Due to the growing demand, the Oxa was rebuilt in 1995. In addition to a second dance floor, a restaurant and a chill out area were also built. Just one year later, the club was rebuilt again. Since May 1998, The Club parties have taken place again on Saturday evenings , again with the resident DJ Whiteside. In 1999, the Oxa merged with the promoter Tarot, which until then was only a subtenant. During this time Madwave became a resident DJ .

At a party with DJ Antoine and Sir Colin on October 31, 2009, there was a big crowd in front of the entrance, whereby a railing collapsed due to the pressure of the crowd. Many people waiting fell into a dry stream bed, around 20 people were injured, eleven of whom had to be hospitalized.

Closure

On January 28, 2013, the operators of the Oxas announced that the club would be closed at the end of March 2013 and converted into an event hall. This opened under the name Sector11 in June 2013. OXA Remember parties are occasionally held there.
