Oxford is a Canadian town in Cumberland County , a north-western part of the Atlantic Province of Nova Scotia . The village is 32 km east of the next larger city, Amherst . According to the 2011 census, Oxford has 1,151 inhabitants.
Oxford is located at the confluence of three rivers. The name comes from the ford (English ford ) of a nearby river, where early settlers Ox ( Oxen ) took advantage to cross the river.
