Oxydates

Oxydates († after 328 BC) was during the Asia campaign of Alexander the Great from 330 to 328 BC. BC governor of media .

Oxydates was of distinguished Persian origin. He was from the great king Dareios III. imprisoned in Susa and was supposed to be executed for an undisclosed offense. Before it came to that, Darius was named in 331 BC. Defeated by Alexander in the battle of Gaugamela , who freed Oxydates from his dungeon and took him into his retinue. In Rhagai he was 330 BC. Appointed satrap of the media by Alexander to replace Atropates . But in the late year 328 BC He was dismissed from this office because he had lost Alexander's trust. His successor in office was his predecessor, Atropates. Since Oxydates no longer appears in the sources from this point in time, its further fate is unknown.
