Gisela Deckert

Gisela Deckert (born Gisela Haagen , born June 19, 1930 in Berlin ) is a German zoologist and conservationist.

Life

Gisela Deckert grew up in Schöneiche near Berlin . From 1948 she studied zoology at the Humboldt University in Berlin and graduated on nest-building behavior in warblers. This was followed by a doctorate under Erwin Stresemann with the thesis Ethological Investigations on the Tree Sparrow .

Gisela Deckert has always been a freelancer. She prepared ornithological and behavioral expert reports for Tierpark Berlin . She edited natural history texts for foreign animal films for GDR television . It prepared ecological expert reports as the basis for the designation of protected areas and species protection projects.

Gisela Deckert is one of the founders of the regional nature conservation movement in the Dahme Lakes area. On the basis of the first state culture law of the GDR, she founded the ornithology and nature conservation group for the districts of Königs Wusterhausen and Zossen in 1971 . From 1980 she headed the ornithology department of the Königs Wusterhausen district of the Society for Nature and Environment (GNU) in the GDR's cultural association . From 1990 she was active on the board of the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU), Regionalverband Dahmeland eV and from 2006 to 2009 its first chairwoman. Since 2009 she has been honorary chairwoman of the NABU regional association Dahmeland. From 1993 to 2001 she was on the advisory board of the lower nature conservation authority of the Dahme-Spreewald district. She has been an appointed member of the Board of Trustees for the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park since 2001 . It refers to the threat to the local fauna from wind turbines and has been actively campaigning for the protection of the forest areas around Kallinchen as a landscape protection area since 2010 .
