The Pääsküla ( Estonian Pääsküla jõgi ) is an 18 km long river in northern Estonia . Its catchment area covers 41 km².
description
The Pääsküla River has its source between the villages of Männiku and Tänassilma in the rural municipality of Saku ( Harju County ). Most of the water comes from the nine-square-kilometer Pääsküla ( Pääsküla raba ) moor .
The middle course of the river forms the border between the city of Tallinn and the rural community of Saku for a few kilometers . It flows through the village of Laagri before taking the path through its natural river bed on its lower reaches.
The Pääsküla River flows into the Vääna in the village of Alliku , of which it is the right tributary. The confluence is 33 km from the mouth of the Vääna in the Gulf of Finland .
During Estonia's membership of the Soviet Union , the river suffered severe ecological damage from industrial sewage, fertilization and a landfill in Pääsküla . Only since the construction of a modern sewer system near Laagri has the fish population slowly recovered.
The old stone bridge on the highway between Tallinn and Pärnu is an architectural monument . It was built in the 1860s.
