On its middle reaches the important Estonian industrial center Saku ( Sack ) with its famous brewery . There is a small, three-tier waterfall ( Vahiküla joastik ) near the village of Vahi . The Vääna River flows into the Gulf of Finland .

The river got its name from the place Vääna (German Faehna ), through which it flows in the lower reaches.
