Päri (also: Lokoro ) is one of the Luo languages that belong to the West Nilotic languages , which in turn are part of the Nilo-Saharan language family .
It is spoken by around 28,000 people in Sudan (as of 1987).
Linguistic characteristics
The Päri is a language with the rare basic word sequence object-verb-subject (OVS).
It is also noteworthy that this language shows the phenomenon of ergativity , which is extremely rare in African languages . However ergativische constructions in that language independent indikativische sets without constituents - focus limited.
Morphologically , the ergative in Päri is formed with the help of vowel suffixes that are subject to an allomorphism .
Originally, this case in the pair was a marked nominative , which was opposed to an unmarked accusative (actually an absolute ) in transitive sentences .
