Mohsen Farahvashi (born July 21, 1947 ) is a former Iranian wrestler and current coach . He was the 1973 free style bantamweight world champion .

Career

Mohsen Farahvashi was used for the first time in an international championship in 1973 at the World Cup in Tehran . At that time he was already 26 years old and nothing is known about his athletic path before this championship. In Tehran he started in bantamweight in the free style, the style he exclusively wrestled, and surprised his competitors with his excellent performances. There he defeated Jorge Ramos from Cuba , Horst Mayer from the GDR , Salim Bak from Turkey , Megdiin Choilogdordsch from Mongolia and, surprisingly, Vladimir Jumin from the Soviet Union and became world champion straight away .

In 1974 Mohsen Farahvashi was at the Asian Games in Tehran. He also won there in bantamweight before the Japanese Tadashi Sasaki and Ha Hi-woo from South Korea . At the Student World Cup in Moscow he lost in the final battle against Tadashi Sasaki, but was second in front of Pavel Shestakov from the USSR, Sudesh Kumar from India and Donald Behm from the United States.

At the 1975 World Cup in Minsk , he represented Iran again in the bantamweight division, but was not in good shape. He won in Minsk only against Mehmet-Emin Simsek from Turkey and lost to Grigoire Condrat from Romania and Risto Autovermietung from Yugoslavia and only reached 9th place.

In 1976 Mohsen Farahvashi started at the Olympic Games in Montreal . He won there in featherweight over Egon Beiler from Canada , Kenkichi Meakawa, Japan and Gene Davis , USA and, after defeats against Dsewegiin Oidow from Mongolia and Vehbi Akdağ from Turkey, just missed a medal in 4th place.

By the end of 1976 Mohsen Farahvashi's international wrestling career, which only lasted four years, was over again, because he did not appear at any international championships.

The next sign of life from him did not appear again until 2003. That year he became head coach of the Iranian national team of freestyle wrestlers in Tehran . In 2007 he took over the position of national coach of the Iranian junior national team of freestyle wrestlers.
