Pålægschokolade is a Danish bread filling ( Danish pålæg ), which consists of very thin chocolate slices . Milk chocolate has the largest market share , followed by dark chocolate ; white chocolate is rare . In Denmark, pålæg chocolate is the most popular topping for bread with children. The per capita consumption of all age groups is two kilograms per year.

There has also been an organic version on the Danish market since the 2010s. This specialty is usually eaten for breakfast and during breakfast breaks.
