Aune made his debut in the World Cup in December 2013 in Asiago , where he finished 51st in the sprint. His next appearance in the World Cup was in March 2014 at the sprint in Drammen , where he was 38th. In February 2014, he took second place in the sprint at the Scandinavian Cup in Madona . At the Norwegian Championships in Røros in January 2015 , he finished second in the qualifying run, but ultimately finished the competition 20th. At the World Cup in Östersund in February 2015, he finished 20th in the sprint and was thus able to achieve World Cup points for the first time. In March 2016 he finished second in the sprint at the Scandinavian Cup in Otepää . In the 2018/19 season he clinched his first Scandinavian Cup victory in the sprint in Östersund and thus achieved tenth place in the overall standings and second place in the sprint standings at the end of the season.
