Péter Kiss (born December 12, 1986 in Gyöngyös , Hungary ; † probably May 21, 2013 on Kangchenjunga ) was a Hungarian extreme athlete and mountaineer .

Péter Kiss died under circumstances that were not entirely clear on the descent from the Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, where Zsolt Erőss, a second Hungarian, two Sherpas and a Korean were killed. Kiss and Erőss reportedly lost sight of each other on the night of the descent to 8000m. Kiss managed to reach high camp IV at an altitude of 7600 m. The next morning he tried to come to the aid of his exhausted comrade by climbing again, which failed.

Plaque

In Hungary, Péter Kiss is honored with a memorial plaque, which is placed not far from his hometown Gyöngyös on the Kékes , the highest mountain in Hungary.
