Pero Vaz de Caminha
Pêro Vaz de Caminha , also Pedro Vaz de Caminha, (* probably 1445 in Porto ; † December 15, 1500 in Kalikut , India ), as the scribe of the seafarer Pedro Álvares Cabral, was significantly involved in the so-called discovery of Brazil in 1500 . His letter to the Portuguese King Dom Manuel ( Carta de Pero Vaz de Caminha ), who is believed to be the most comprehensive and accurate representation of the discovery of Brazil, achieved great fame . In the form of a diary, Caminha described the journey from departure in Lisbon to arrival on the coast of Brazil. The 29-page document is located in the Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo in Lisbon.
