PAKA Glashütter Pappen- und Kartonagenfabrik GmbH is a German company in the packaging industry and producer of solid cardboard from waste paper as well as processor of various cardboard, types of cardboard and corrugated cardboard.

history

Origins of the company from 1848 to 1942

The company's origins go back to the 19th century. The factory was first mentioned in documents in 1848. The owner at that time was the international telegraph construction company. At that time, wooden cases were produced at the Glashütte site for the local watch industry . Due to its very close location to the Müglitz River, a water wheel was used to generate energy , and the lighting was done with petroleum in cylinder lamps. Under the owners Kadner & Mende, cardboard production began with the wood grinding shop in 1883 and became “G. Neumann - wood grinding and cardboard factory "renamed. A separate track system has existed on the company premises since 1927 ( narrow gauge ) and 1938 (standard gauge). After several changes of company owner and a changed focus on production, the cardboard factory was closed during the Second World War in 1942 and the company premises were used as residential property for around 2,000 people.

Post-war period & VEB united cardboard and cardboard plants (1945 to 1992)

After the Second World War, the company became public property in the course of the expropriations. This is where today's main areas originated: the production of wrapping cardboard and the manufacture of cardboard boxes and bars / partitions. After the company was placed under the newly founded "Association of Nationally Owned Paper Heidenau Companies" from 1949 and under the "Head Office for Pulp, Paper and Cardboard Heidenau" from 1957, after several production and machine relocations, the former "VEB Vereinigte Pappen- und Kartonagenwerke -Sitz Glashütte" was established in 1969 "Founded in the" VEB Combine Pulp and Paper ". This united the plants and facilities in Glashütte, Großschirma , Lodenau , Porstendorf , Raschau (later also Lübben and Pockau). Almost 200 people were employed at the Glashütte site alone. For the 100th anniversary, in addition to the inauguration of a millstone in the company's entrance area, the existing railway tracks in the company were also renewed. Here, the transport could now be carried out much better on rails instead of by road. The beer coasters produced at the Großschirma plant were registered under the patent DE3817552A1 July 13, 1989 (process for the production of paper-covered, absorbent cardboard) by VEB United Pappen- und Kartonagenwerke, based in Glashütte, GDR 8245 Glashütte, DD.

PAKA Glashütter Pappen- und Kartonagenfabrik GmbH (1992 to today)

The current company "PAKA Glashütter Pappen- und Kartonagenfabrik GmbH" was founded in 1992 through a management buy-out by three former VEB employees. In the course of the restructuring, the machine park was also expanded and renewed. As a result, PAKA was one of the 10 largest manufacturers of strong cardboard in Germany. The flood of the century in 2002 hit the company hard. In 2016, PAKA Glashütter Pappen- und Kartonagenfabrik GmbH passed into the hands of the current owner Ronny Ruider as part of a corporate succession.
