PG Tips

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PG Tips is a tea brand in the United Kingdom . According to the manufacturer Unilever , 35 million cups of PG Tips are consumed every day in the UK. The tea is also popular with British people living abroad.

Surname

PG Tips was first introduced to the UK market in 1930 by Brooke Bond under the name Digestive and promoted as digestive . After World War II , companies were banned from calling tea a digestif , so Brooke Bond changed the name to PRE-GEST-TEE (which was an abbreviation of PRE-diGESTive TEA ).

Some dealers used the abbreviation “PG”, which quickly became established and in 1950/51 was determined as the official brand name PG Tips. "Tips" is an indication that only the tips (the two upper leaves and the flower) of the tea plant are used for the mixture.
