Individual parts of the PMA-3

The PMA-3 is a Yugoslavia- made anti-personnel mine that was widely used during the Yugoslav Wars. It is the successor to the PMA-2 .

description

The lead is 40 millimeters high, has a diameter of 111 millimeters and is similar in shape and size to a shoe polish can . It consists of two plastic shells that are held together with a black rubber skin; The upper shell contains the explosive (35 grams of tetryl ), the lower shell carries the ignition device (chemical UPMAH-3 detonator) which is triggered by pressure. A plastic ring is located on the top of the mine body as a safety device. The mine is labeled PMA-3 on the underside . It is also waterproof, resistant to pressure waves and difficult to detect.

function

With a side pressure of approx. Eight kilograms on the upper shell, it tilts down. The firing pin rubs through the initial charge. This friction in the initial charge creates a chemical reaction that generates heat. This heat initiates the detonator, which in turn initiates the explosive charge.

commitment

The mine was introduced by the states of Slovenia , Croatia , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Serbia , Kosovo and Macedonia . The mines are delivered in packs of ten each and a detonator container with ten detonators each. Seven packing units make up one transport unit.

eviction

The mine is picked up on the lower shell and the detonator is removed after unscrewing the screw plug. If the mine is provided with safety devices or has been manipulated in any other way, it will be blown up without contact.
