Lists on the subject

The POM-2 ( Russian ПОМ-2 short for противопехотная осколочная мина , anti-personnel fragmentation mine) is a remotely deployable anti-personnel mine made in Russia.

description

The POM-2 was introduced to the Soviet armed forces in the late 1980s, where it replaced the POM-1 mine. POM-2 has a cylindrical body made of metal . On the side of the mine body there are six fold-out metal compartments. The mine can be green, olive green or brown and is triggered by sensor wires or by self-destruct. The mine has an anti-lift device.

variants

  • POM-2: 1st serial version for remote mining.
  • POM-2S: With additional time fuse. Self-destruct after 4–100 hours.
  • POM-2S1: With additional time fuse. Self-destruct after 20-25 hours.
  • POM-2P: Version for manual laying by hand. Sharpens after 120 seconds. Self-destruct after 4–100 hours.
  • POM-2P1: For manual laying by hand. Sharpens after 50 seconds. Self-destruct after 4–100 hours.
  • POM-2RBS: For manual laying by hand. Sharpens after 120 seconds. Without a self-destruct mechanism.
  • POM-2R1BS: For manual laying by hand. Sharpens after 50 seconds. Without a self-destruct mechanism.
  • POM-2-SIP-2R: For manual laying by hand. Without sensor wires. Triggered with a VP-13A / P shock detonator or MVE-72A / P tripwire.
  • POM-2-SIP-2P: Like POM-2-SIP-2R but with self-destruction after 4–100 hours.
  • UI-POM-2S: Practice version of the POM-2S with a pyrotechnic smoke and flare
  • MI-POM-2R: Inert version of the POM-2P .
  • MI-POM-2RD: Practice version of the POM-2P with a pyrotechnic smoke and flare.
  • MI-POM-2RBP: Exercise mine for manual triggering.
  • IA-SIP-2P: Inert version of the POM-2-SIP-2P .
  • SAPM: Chinese replica of the POM-2 .

Use and function

Four mines each are housed in a 48 cm long KPOM-2 cassette. These cartridges have an ejection charge for the mines and are remotely deployed by vehicles, helicopters, or missile artillery. After it has been ejected from the cartridge, the lead is stabilized and slowed down by four strips of fabric attached to the top of the lead. The pyrotechnic sharpening sequence also begins with the ejection . When the mine has reached the bottom, the six metal compartments expand 54 seconds after ejection and the mine stands up vertically. Another 3.5 seconds later, the upper part with the fabric bands is blasted off. Then the four 9.5 m long trip wires are ejected and the mine is sharp. As soon as a pull of 300 to 450 g is exerted on one of the tripwires, the mine detonates immediately. The splinter action circle is 10–15 m. Injuries can occur up to a distance of 50 m. In addition, the mine has anti-lift protection: if the mine is lifted or the position angle is changed by 3–7 °, it detonates immediately. The POM-2S version has a neutralization system. If the mine is not triggered by the sensor wires, it detonates after a certain time by means of a time fuse.

If the mine laid by hand, instead of sensors wires may seismic VP-13A / P -Erschütterungszünder be used. This reacts to step noises up to approx. 15 m around the sensor and then controls up to five mines at the same time. The mines do not have to be close to the trigger, but can be up to 25 m away. The system is battery-operated and, when triggered, self-destructs by a small, externally attached, explosive charge.

Deployment systems

  • PKM: with a KPOM-2 cassette with four leads. PKM has a throw range of 30 to 35 meters and can be used by a single soldier.
  • UMZ: Spreading container with 720 refills for use from the vehicle.
  • WSM-1: Spreading container with 464 mines for use from helicopters.
  • 9M22K1 missile with 5 mines for use with the 9K51 Grad .
  • 9M55K3 missile with 64 mines for use with the 9K58 Smertsch .
